Tucson Mayor Rothschild Visits St. Luke’s Home

Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild visited St. Luke’s Home on April 11. CEO L’Don Sawyer led him on a full tour of the community and the Mayor met with Elders at the Town Hall Meeting. The Elders had a number of questions for the Mayor with a focus on his plans for expanding senior housing options in Tucson. Mayor Rothschild carefully and thoughtfully answered all questions. He provided a full explanation of the range of housing options available and how the city funds services.

He also offered an overview of the city’s efforts to bring more jobs into Tucson, and described current efforts to raise the sales tax to provide additional revenue for road repair. When asked to describe Tucson in fifteen seconds, he thought a moment and replied, “Weather, scenery, history, culture and the kindness of the people. Tucson is a great place to live!”

Elders were impressed with the Mayor and described him as “down to earth.” All Town Hall meetings are opened with a general question that is answered by all Elders to make sure all participate. The question for April: If you could have dinner with any actor or musician, dead or alive, who would it be?  Mayor Rothschild’s dream meal partner: Paul McCartney.
